Classical rosette after Fleta

A few pics of a rosette Ive just finished for a classical based on a 1968 Fleta. Of course you can buy these rosettes ready made up for a few bucks...but I thought Id go back to basics and make up a rosette from scratch. Time to install a ready mate rosette...about 3 hours. Time to make up a rosette from scratch....2 months!

The Rosette looks amazing Martin. You must have a lot of patience and diligence to make this rosette. I like all the photos and seeing all of the components involved to make this rosette. Great craftsmanship work!

LOL.....first send your wife off for a holiday and set yourself up with regular visits to a psychologist. The stress levels during this task were incredibly high. The blocks making up the central mosaic alone will drive you nuts and the herringbone....that's about the most finicky stuff I've ever had to deal with.

Hi Martin, that's truly the sign of a dedicated luthier in my book, I admire your work. I'm procrastinating over rosette designs this week, but nothing even close to your complex design. The trouble with using an off-the-shelf rosette is it's not one of a kind, and I don't feel comfortable building a custom guitar and not using an original rosette.

Exceptional inlay work Martin. I tried making my past two builds rosettes using segments and making up logs with different woods like ebony and maple together to achieve different designs. I was really happy with my efforts but have done some absolute outstanding work there. Thank your for sharing.
