Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. It has taken nine years, but if all goes right next week, and it should, the hard part is over, I'll interview with the section supervisor and the department head as a formality. They technically bless my hiring so it is an important formality. And once March gets here I will have a huge chunk of my life back. I will be cutting my insanely stupid commute in at least half or better and get back 10+ hrs a week that will now be mine to do with what I please. Better pay, less commuting, less stress, more money. You know what that means? I'll be able to hang out in my shop and here.

Martin, I've been either working, commuting or sleeping. It's been a very dull decade.

I would have been more than happy with the stern talking to, that would have meant that I got to meet some of you in person.

The first order of business is to clean out the shop. Its been storage for the past few years. If all goes well and whatnot, April I should be able to actually do something in there other than walk in and get depressed. I'm so looking forward to the next few months, you have no idea.

Good morning Allen. I missed you guys as well, but I didn't want to subject you all to my very cranky attitude.

The job is much closer. It is south of Seattle, so I'll be avoiding all of that traffic.

Thanks Nick. It's good to be getting back into things. Life have been far too stressful and harsh. The new job is a good step in the right direction.

Parrot vices are handy for holding small stuff like saddles, nuts etc. For bigger stuff a pattern makers vice is very useful.

LMI and Stewmac have the parrot vices but you can also pick up equivalent vices on ebay for cheaper.

Richard, what Martin said. If you can find/afford it, go with the pattern/gun maker's vice. If not, the parrot vice is much better than just a fixed vice.

Seems my soon to be supervisor (who is also my former supervisor) is heading to your neck of the woods. She'll be attending the NZIS conference in May. Already asked if she needed a porter. My wife said NO for some odd reason, so I guess I'll have to catch up with you at some later date to be named.

My current job is awesome. Most of the people I work directly with are awesome, some are awesome-er. Department head has done nothing but paint, buy furniture and send out emails at least once a week that someone else will be in charge, due to leaving early, coming in late or skipping out all together. Rank has it's privileges, but its not proper form to rub the noses of your minion in the fact you don't have to work 40 hrs to get paid for 40 hrs.

*sigh* I'm not bitter, honestly, just completely burnt out on the entire situation. I am so looking forward to getting to work with my former supervisor with half to a third of the commute. Tomorrow is 9 more days and a wake up.
