I Watched this Movie or I should say Doco on the weekend this is amazing stuff that I never realised before.
I and all my mates had Rodriguez playing on the tape player in our cars when we were around 18 or so back in 1978 the Aussies and Kiwi's bought up this blokes music (as did Sth Africans) everyone except the Americans and he didn't realise that he had a following up until recently recommended viewing. I have spent the last couple of days playing and singing his songs bringing back memories.

Music is everyone's posession. It's only publishers who think that people own it.

It's funny. I grew up in the US and NEVER heard of this guy.
I think he played Bluesfest this year, and my wife was very insistent that I would want to go and see him. Flatly refused to believe I had never heard of him.
We watched a few bits of him on the telly around that time, and I understand why he didn't make it in the US. I thought he was awful.....my wife thought he was fab.....

I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

That Only shows that your wife has good taste and you don't
Seriously though that seems to be a fact .... Americans don't like him... and Aussie's Kiwi's and Seth efricans love him ..I think these days it has a lot to do with memories when you hear a tune from your teens

I only ever heard of Rodriguez 3 mos. ago. He just wasn't on L.A./ SoCal play lists. Neither was Abba, thank god.
Thankfully we did have Little River Band and Daddy Cool. A big deal was made about LRB being Aussie. I didn't know
Daddy Cool was Aussie till I got here in 81'. We thought they were a local band singing about the LA suburb Eagle Rock.
ops.

Well, my girlfriend and I are a couple Americans who like him quite a bit. True that largely no one here knows who he is, though many record collector types, of course, have been hip to him for years. The first part of this documentary was a bit tiresome as they seemed to not want to reveal, surprise!, that he is still alive, which of course going into the documentary you probably already know.

I like him a lot, heard him in the early 80's. A bit like Dylan, either you love him or hate him.
