Im a tree hugger, I know the industry supports a lot of people but most of the timber that gets logged gets turned into arse wipe and the like. A waste of a beautiful resource. If it was used for construction or other more permanent purposes then their could be a valid case. Pulp is a waste of fine timber.

I listened to a doco on Strahan 20 tears after the Franklin was saved, most did well even despite the predicted economic catastrophe.
make mine fifths........

Isn't Tim harvesting the Tassie Blackwood stumps that get left behind by the millers??

When you go to Japan the first thing you notice is they still have alot of native forest left......thats because they mill other countries' timber to turn into disposable chopsticks and gift wrap.

Time to become less wasteful and live within our means.

Same thing happened when most of the mills shut down on the West Coast of the South Island New Zealand. Last time I was over there the economy of the place seemed more vibrant and diverse.
