Quite a lot of the jigs and tools I have built or modified are available from the major instrument parts suppliers, some became available after I had created my own, some I made from the ideas of others, and some I made out of necessity, and nobody sells them,

Recently I did a stock take of the machines and tools in my workshop, and the thought occurred to me that it would be fun to list what I had bought and what I had made but could have bought. Wow, what a surprise I got…..
Ninety-six items listed in the catalogs of the major lutherie retailers I had made for myself. Some large and expensive and some small and low cost but added to the list for fun. Also just for fun, I did a costing. At today’s price, just over 12000.00. Not including freight.
I have not included in the list the two machines I started with, a nine-inch Makita hand saw converted to a table saw, and a shopmade thickness sander, both I used for ten years before buying more professional machines.
I should mention that some of the tools I made myself were replaced with store-bought versions over time.
I have not included the dozens of shop-made Orchestral instrument-related tools and jigs.
