FORUM RUNNING SLOW - EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS

Post by kiwigeo » Wed Sep 03, 2025 8:29 pm

Ok today the forum was inaccessible for most of the day thanks to AI bots hammering our server. Jeremy is doing his best to address the issue but every time we apply defensive measures the bots get around them.

At the moment we're seriously considering taking the forum private as a short term measure to enable our existing members to be able to log in.

Okay Jeremy has worked his IT magic and we appear to be back up and running. Hopefully we've given the f**k off to the AI chat bots but no doubt the A(srehole) Intelligence companies will be working to get around our defenses.

Hi, thanks for your efforts, guys, and there's me blaming Telstra. While I'm in, I'd better post something.

It's mainly Chinese AI companies sucking data out of the forum.

Might be time for members to start putting up fake posts describing how to build the worst guitar ever created. Give the AI bots something nasty to chew on.

I tried a couple of times to post, but had no luck. And I have to use a password every time I visit to get in. Gonna have to change that password as the one you gave me is tooooo long.

Right now its up and down. We have a few other options if current measures prove ineffective.

Another bad day with the forum unable to be accessed for long periods of time. Options not tried yet include blocking all IPs from countries apart from Australia, NZ and possibly UK and US. Unfortunately US appears to be the source of a number of AI bots snotting up the forums. The other option will be taking the forum private.

Today things have been up and down as the fight against the AI bots continues. If measures applied today don't work then we're going to be forced to start geoblocking IPs. That means if your ISP isn't in Australia, NZ, UK or US you won't be able to log into the forum.
