Aust timber similar to Indian Rosewood?
Hi guys, I know I'm out on a limb here, but I'm just wondering if there is an Australian native timber with similar attributes to Indian Rosewood?
Just brain storming for a project is all.

You could try Brigalow, Mulga, Gidgee, Wester Myall, wandoo.
There's a guy in Melbourne called Pete Mc Curly who from memory has quite a lot of Aus Native Fretboards and Desert Timber. I'll have to hunt down my business card binder to get his details though...
Tim Spittle (Australian Tonewoods) has a fair few native fretboard options as well.

Bass neck?
Re: Aust timber similar to Indian Rosewood?
I'd be that Pete Mccurley guy talked of . Closest native timber aesthetically I'd say would be Cooba , Acacia salacina . It's got the same sort of washes of colour , same open pores , similar density if a bit lower . Tap tone is a fair bit softer though . We mostly mill it for Back and sides , with the odd neck thrown in .
For fingerboards and such we supply high density Acacia's like the aforementioned Gidgee and Mulga , Brigalow etc etc , along with others like Beefwood , Boonaree , Supplejack and such .
Only thing is that work only wholesales . I have been meaning to list some of my own old stock on the forum here , now I do it for someone else for work I only really want to keep my own build stock , there's containers of stuff to clear out .

Sorry Pete, I didn't realise you were under the name 'curly' on the forum. You've been recommended by a few on the forum and Alastair Boell hence I thought I'd share

Will the website ever have a shopping cart style click and buy web store? That would be very convenient for the customer.
I know the day I dropped in you guys were not setup to take customers yet and you had mentioned you were busy filling large orders at the time, but I walked in with over two grand in my pocket hoping to go home with stock (priority was the one figured piece that I was there for in the first place) and walked out empty handed as everything was either green or ungraded.
I ended out getting what I needed from Tasmania after I waited a week for you to get back to me, I just put that down to you guys were very busy at the time as you had explained so no drama or hard feelings. Anyway, I see it as a networking experience but I was there with a ute I wanted to fill the tray of! I'm still very interested in buying the Boonaree we discussed.

Yeah it really is a difficulty for us . We are flat out with orders and processing work so can't currently find the space to prepare a retail space . We are looking at a accessible website in the future but it's only in the planning . I think a solution in the near term is that we will organise open days with stock accessible for local makers . I really do apologise Alan , the boss has me with over a years work processing for Martin , Taylor , PRS ..........
