Some customer just don't listen...

Post by Taffy Evans » Mon Aug 27, 2012 7:08 am

Hi, I get many repairs from people who have loaned their guitar to a "mate" and get it back damaged some time later. My advise is don't lend instruments you really care about. This recent customer bought the Guild bass pictured below in to me as his mate had given him back his "playable" bass in the condition shown in the pic. It's not just reassembly either as the neck is twisted and bowed, it also needs re-fretting and the bindings turn to dust as you touch them, so will need replacing.

What the hell did his mate do to it? Strip it and bake it?

Ex-mate, I reckon.

Sometimes you wonder what makes people do what they do. How long did his "mate" have it?
I wish I was half the man my dog thinks I am....

Yes all fine comments guys. I don't know how long the mate had the guitar but the owner said he has had the guitar in this state for fifteen years since he got it back. I hope he's not going to rush me for the repair.

Other source's of damaged guitars I get for repair are taking them to parties, leaving them on the stage at a gig in close reach of the punters, and transport companies.

I had a repair once where a guy had taken his guitar along with him to play whilst fishing,of all things (probably to strum out a quick rendition of ten guitars inbetween casts) & managed to trip on the boards of the jetty & land on his guitar  Fortunately I only had to replace the side of the guitar, top was undamaged.
Can't see your customer being in a rush Taffy if it's been in that state for the past 15 years!

Nice to hear in church but not in a Mexican prison.
