Re: pattern makers vise at Carbatec at last!
Hi Guys,
I also have the green pattern makers vise, but if I had of come across the parrot vise first, that would have been my preference to buy...why?...because it can be used in the vertical & horizontal positions & swivelled to any degree.
Of course, horses for courses.

Re: vacuum pumps
I'm also interested in using vacuum, looked at veneersupplies.com to buy a kit from and import, but with the added cost of freight it begins to become expensive and not a worthy project. Has anyone built using components bought on the local market in Oz/NZ. If anyone can pass on their knowledge, con...

Nice one Steve, Thanks for documenting & taking the time to show how different tasks are performed. There's some interesting stuff going on in these tutorials, I know that I am going to benefit from & I'm sure others will also. This is what makes this forum great, people willing to share their exper...

Re: Top or Back First
I'm currently building an OM at Gerard Gilet workshop in Sydney ( a real experience ) and they put back on first then the top.
All because of glue squeeze out and then having to clean it up.

NZ holiday
Hi all, Presently on holiday in "the land of the long white cloud" and stormy clouds with rain. One day sunny the next rain, oh well, doesn't matter. On our trip to lovely Paihia, bumped into a bloke called Christian Druery, had some of his items on display at a market fair day. Apart from building ...

Re: Bandsaw advice
Hi, My 2 cents worth. . . Don't mess around with a toy, buy the best bandsaw you can afford. You will kick yourself if you don't. Their was a discussion awhile back on bandsaws and most blokes gave good reviews on the Laguna LT14 SUV from Gregory Machinery. I got one, plus accessories and for the mo...

That's nice, the engleman dose'nt look creamy like the ones I have in stock. It looks quite aged which I like.
Is it the finish used or just the lighting taken when photographed, interesting.

Martin,
That sure is classy, the fretboard & bridge fooled me for EIR.
The rosette done alone in paua looks spectacular & I would love to get a gloss finish like that.

Hi Matthew,
I've used Workmate in Botany and All purpose Abrasives in Campbelltown NSW, both may have what you require.

Hi,
Nice build. Interested to know how the cut-a-way was bent, thickness, wet or dry bend etc. As I tried to bend some Brazilian Lacewood for a cut-a-way but was'nt sucessful. Any info appreciated.

Re: Bubinga/Sitka tenor guitar
That's nice.
Love the simple yet effective rosette & the finish to the soundhole.
The centre stripe with the neck stripe compliment one another & the bubinga looks terrific.
You're workmanship is nice & clean & up there with the best.

Steve,
I've used my resaw blade maybe six times and it's starting to drift.
What about you? Post some feedback on the drift master if you can.

Re: Bending Brazilian Lacewood sides
Thanks for the replies guys. Food for thought. . . You can try soaking the sides in water with fabric softener in it. I tried Super-Soft 2 to achieve a cutaway bend on some figured timbers. But in the end, some beautiful pieces of timber just won't bend without cracking - which is when you decide to...
