Re: Bandsaw problems
About 3 seconds after it hit full speed....CRUNCH!!!! so I hit the red button to find that the top tyre had spat the dummy. No problem though the guy still bought it cause he is tired of butchering his killers by hand. Don't let your saw sit too long without use I suppose. Jim One of the things I l...

Hey Christian, looking good, and thanks for posting.
Especially interested in your neck process. Notice you shape the head before gluing the overlay.
Not clear how you kept that in register while the glue set. Pins from the back side?
Thanks,
Steve

Forever and two weeks? You're getting soft Dennis.
But my concern is this--can one Yank ban another from an A-NZ organization?
As for the iron, probably too late. Already in the process of delivering the guitar!

Re: When is a flat top guitar not a flat top?
Nigel, I use a domed top mainly to get my neck angle geometry to work like I desire. As a by-product, the tone has become more complex. I really hear more power in the mids, and a *lusher* sound overall. The true flat tops we've built have more force in the bass, generally, so as you say it becomes ...

The head chef! Thank you for the kind remarks, Bob.
And nice to still find the store still open. It's a fun place, and thanks for allowing a Yank to pull up a chair.

Re: Ban
Thanks Kym. As I recall, and memory will have to do as the stats aren't in front of me, this was not an exceptional piece as regards stiffness. Dana Bougeoise (sp?) feels that the ripple in bearclaw adds to lateral stiffness, but I never test for that. Possibly it does, but this piece seemed rather ...

Thanks Sebastiaan, appreciate the kind word.
And apologies for the eye strain.
I hope this guitar gets played, instead of being hung on the wall!

Nick, I didn't realize you had a copy of that pic. Please overlook the girlish grimace, but I do think the pic shows my torso to good advantage. And the entire ANZLF crew lined up to inflict pain. Everybody recognize themselves? Ok, ok, something about the inlay: The owner lives in South Florida, an...

It's been quite a while since I posted anything, so let me rectify that. Jim S. suggested I might enjoy getting banned from the forum again, and that sounded like fun. You did say "free". Man, oh man, the price is right.
Don't forget neck stock, solid body blanks, binding strips, etc.
If you've got the time, I'd say go for it.

Hope to see pix of your guitars soon.

Re: An Interesting Build (at least for us...)
Jim, in our neck of the woods, there are a few free lance sawyers... they bring their saw to your site. Do you have that option where you are? Perhaps you and a few mates could man-handle that stump, and drag it to a saw that could be carted to the site. That seems the simplest way to me. And yes, I...

A tree that is 1.7 miles in diameter, and 3 miles long...wow! That would be hard to handle.... No, wait... you guys went to that metric system, didn't you? Actually not sure what that equals, as we measure in rods at our shop. But anyway--one of these babies grew in a bot garden, huh? Who got the wo...

I oohed and ahhed over this at the AGF, but somehow it looks even better here.
(How is that possible, Bob?) Is it because it's closer to home?
Anyway Christian, most impressive, and the unity of the design is quite pleasing!

Again, many thanks for your kindness. Allen--would I use it again? In a heart beat. Well, the next heart beat after putting on the dust mask. Besides, we have to use up all this stuff somehow. But seriously, I am quite impressed with the sound from this guitar, and also enjoy that it weighs almost n...

An Interesting Build (at least for us...)
G'day mates, sorry to be silent of late. Wanted to share a build with you that we found rewarding. We acquired some alternative-alternative wood last year, and finally got to put it into a guitar. A little-known species called Kelobra, or Guanacaste. The trees grow quickly and become massive, which ...

Re: KB Pine/Blackwood OOO
Thanks Rob for your kind comments. Yes, there's a pic somewhere on this post that shows the teflon strip being used. I chose the 1/16" pearl-- .0625" or so-- and got the teflon strip for that width. In that size the stip is nearly square, so I'm always checking with my calipers to see which face is ...
