Re: group buy BowRiver tonewoods in Perth

Not much, I need a figured maple neck blank for an acoustic guitar and a few blocks (heels blocks etc...). In the eventuality of a group buy, I could add a violin kit a one or 2 soundboards...

I forgot to post the link : http://www.bowriverwoods.com/

group buy BowRiver tonewoods in Perth

Hi guys Everything is pretty much in the title : I'm planning to order a little bit of maple and a few other stuffs from Bow River Tonewoods in a couple of days or weeks. So I was wondering if some of you could be interested in a group buy in order to share the shipping costs. Plus it would be an op...

Interesting project Alan. I've seen once a video of Bob Brozman playing a kona and it sounded gorgeous, as far as I remember.
Keep going !

Cheers BBK

Don't worry for me, I easily admit my work is more than perfectible, but still I'm happy with the result...

I've checked the fil-stick, sounds like a good idea. Lutherie Gervais, can you tell me how this stuff will react with the finish, especially with a french polished shellac ?

Re: Filling minor gaps

Thanks all ! I'll try that trick tomorrow on the bindings. Are you going to grain fill and clear coat this? If so you could fill with epoxy or super glue and it'll hide reasonably well. You'll know its there, but it won't stand right out. Hmmm.... I was more planning to get straight into the shellac...

Re: Filling minor gaps

Thanks guys, very motivating answers. Just a question : I've used Titebond glue, so is it really possible to heat the area and clamp or tape ?

Re: Filling minor gaps

:D you're damn right, and I definitely get that not having gaps IS the only good way to go. But it's the second guitar I'm building and I guess it will take a couple more to get on top of the process.

Here's a few pics :

Filling minor gaps

Hi there I'm currently building a blackwood weissie, and have some issues with minor gaps filling along the bindings and the rosette. I did many tests on scrap woods, with titebond glue, standard white wood glue, super glue or epoxy mixed with fine dust but I always end with something too dark and f...

Re: On the bench for Healdsburg !

Hi guys

and well done for your projects. It's been a while I didn't post anything on the forum so here it is : I'm currently working on two Weissies, both made of blackwood and maple, but with different bracing systems and a few cosmetic changes. We'll see in a few months which one sounds better :D

Just discovering the topic, and I must say it's very very sad news. I've been planning for years to see that guy playing live, and never had the opportunity.
One of the most respectable and enjoyable musician of those last decades IMHO.
Too bad...

Hey Bob, nice explanations here. Cheers

I've seen your headstock design a few weeks ago an it's already built that way on mine : I must admit that's a simple and briliant idea, which makes perfect sens to me.

Thanks for your advises, even the non-intentional ones !

Re: Another Weissenborn Copy

Thank you both for sharing your knowledges. The "christmas tree" under the bridge totaly makes sense and I was planning to add something too. But I don't understand this A brace or any similar heavier reinforcement above the soundhole : the original brace and a thick finger board should be enough to...

Re: Question about planes .... again

Thanks all for all those advises. It helped me a lot. I purchased yesterday a veritas low angle block plane, to start with : never had such a efficient handtool in my hand !
Guess the next one will be the low angle jack plane, or maybe a 5 and 1/2. But I have to make money first !

Cheers

Another Weissenborn Copy

Hi All I'm opening this topic to talk about the project I'm working on at the moment : a Weissenborn copy made of blackwood. Nothing original, I'm just tring to stich to the StewMac plans but as it's only the second guitar I'm building, there is still a couple of things I would like to clarify about...

Re: Questtion about planes .... again

Thanks Ken. I'll probably be quite busy the next 2 weeks but I'm definitely interested in your offer
I've seen Veritas, seems to be a good value too. But is it possible to use a veritas jack plane with a shooting board ?
I mean, can you use it on the side and does it has square angles ?
